A Punta Gorda woman is facing a second-degree felony after Charlotte County detectives say home surveillance footage showed her in sexual contact with a dog. Malia Elizabeth Nummerdor was arrested Sept. 15 in Port Charlotte on one count of sexual contact with an animal, according to a sheriff’s affidavit. The investigation began Sept. 11 after Detective Donald Woelke learned of public Facebook posts from her estranged husband, Erik Nummerdor, who alleged he had found the footage.
Erik Nummerdor told detectives he installed two surveillance cameras while trying to figure out who was taking money from a coin container. He provided screenshots and a laptop containing the surveillance files, the affidavit states. In a sworn interview the same day as her arrest, Malia Nummerdor denied the conduct, telling investigators she had been lying with and petting her elderly dog, identified in the report as Ranger, near its bed. Detectives said her explanation was inconsistent with the recording. She requested an attorney and was taken into custody.
The charge carries serious penalties under Florida law, and the case is now moving through the court system.
